Supplier code of practice

Supplier code of practice

Caring for the environment is an integral part of the way we run our business. We believe that good environmental practice is also good business practice and fully accept our environmental responsibilities on behalf of our shareholders, customers, staff and the communities in which we operate.

Our Environmental Policy reflects our commitment to responsible management of the environmental effects arising from our business activities, specifically through:

  • minimising the use of energy
  • ensuring efficient use of materials
  • encouraging re-use and recycling
  • incorporating the principle of sustainable development.

However, we also recognise that the process of continual environmental improvement depends on the involvement and commitment of all our business partners. We expect our suppliers, therefore, to take an active role in our policy by adhering to the following code of practice.

All Capita suppliers should:

  • Have an environmental policy statement.
  • A nominated company representative, ideally at board director level, should hold responsibility for implementation of the policy, supported by an appropriate level of management to ensure effective implementation.

Be aware of the environmental impacts of their own business and supply chain, including the products, raw materials and services they provide. Objectives and targets should be set to reduce significant environmental impacts and reports on progress should be readily available.

Achieve awareness of and compliance with all relevant legislation, ensuring that all products or services supplied at least meet or exceed these requirements.

Take account of the principles of sustainable development in the design, production, use and end-of life disposal of their supplied products and services. In particular, they should:

  • use the minimum amount of raw materials consistent with being fit for purpose
  • safeguard biodiversity
  • use energy efficiently, and
  • minimise the impacts during use and disposal.
  • provide, on request, data on the environmental performance of the processes and materials used in the products or services supplied.
  • be willing to work in partnership to progress environmental initiatives that continually improve the performance of the products and services supplied.

Non-compliance with this code of conduct can adversely affect our trading relationship with the supplier concerned. However we are committed to working with our suppliers to help them achieve full compliance where necessary.
