Our employees feel motivated by volunteering in their local communities
Our employee volunteering programme encourages employees to use their skills and resources to support their local communities. This could be through one-off projects, such as running a CV workshop for socially excluded groups seeking employment, or more regular volunteering such as helping children in local schools to improve their reading. The benefits of the scheme for the community, employees and our business are widely recognised. During 2009, nearly 3000 employees volunteered in their local communities, contributing over 9000 hours of their time.
Volunteering in partnership with Zurich
Since 2005 Capita employees working on the Zurich contract have been volunteering in their local communities as part of 'Challenge'. Challenge is Zurich’s biggest annual volunteer event where employee teams get together to complete a one off project which benefits a local voluntary organisation. Organised by the charitable arm of Zurich, The Zurich Community Trust, Challenge is in its 21st year and offers managers and staff a great team building opportunity. And it’s a fun thing for employees to do.
UK Volunteering Manager, Tony Martin commented “Capita teams from Cheltenham and Swindon have supported charities in Gloucestershire and Wiltshire for four years now through the donation of money, volunteered time and business skills. Team build challenges deliver practical projects to the charitable sector while providing incidental benefits for our businesses and employees really enjoy their involvement in the community.”
