Capita IT Services today announced its appointment as technology partner of choice for Suffolk New College’s purpose-built £70 million new campus. The contract, which will run for an initial five years, will see Capita deliver an end to end Cisco unified communications infrastructure capable of meeting the needs of 21st century education and transforming campus life. This will include the design, installation and maintenance of a new fixed and wireless Local Area Network (LAN and WLAN), IP Telephony, firewalls, digital media systems – including digital signage – and energy saving technology.
Suffolk New College opened to students this September. It is a further education and vocational training provider based in central Ipswich, with 600 staff and 2500 full-time students.
The new infrastructure will drive efficiencies and reduce capital and operational expenditure. By using ‘Energy Wise’ technology, systems are also automatically put into sleep mode when not in use, which will reduce the college’s carbon footprint.
“We believe that Capita’s innovation and creativity will provide our new college campus with a totally flexible learning environment with a fully integrated infrastructure at its core to support our diverse and dynamic curriculum needs – both now and into the future,” commented Dave Müller, Principal, Suffolk New College. “We expect our partnership with Capita to reduce our long term operational costs through energy saving, whilst providing students with the very latest technology in a stimulating and dynamic environment.”
The wireless network will provide students and staff with a secure and reliable communications platform, enabling users to access learning facilities from any location within the college buildings, including the atrium and common spaces.
Noel McNulty, Director, Capita IT Services, said: “As Suffolk New College’s technology partner of choice we will be working with them to transform campus life. The new infrastructure and technologies now in place will serve the needs of students and staff and support them in realising the educational, financial and environmental benefits that an effective and integrated ICT network can provide.”
