Capita staff run rings around Cheltenham for The James Hopkins Trust

Last week, Capita staff in Cheltenham raised £1,000 by donning their running shoes and taking part in a sponsored ‘fun run’ in support of The James Hopkins Trust. The 22 Capita runners completed five laps of Pittville Park in Cheltenham which is six miles in total and the winner of the race was one of Capita’s managers, Kris de Alwis with a winning time of 49 minutes 20 seconds.

All funds raised will be used to pay for the materials needed to carry out a community project at The James Hopkins Trust. The Trust provides respite nursing care across Gloucestershire for severely disabled young children and those under the age of five with life threatening or life limiting conditions.

Vance Hopkins, founder of The James Hopkins Trust, said: “We would like to thank Capita’s staff in Cheltenham for raising this money in order to pay for the materials needed to re-paint our day room as well as refresh our large garden. It's wonderful that so many of them were prepared to give up their valuable time to do this for us”

For the last four years, Capita Life & Pensions in Cheltenham have partnered with Zurich Community Trust to run a community involvement programme. The programme helps charities and organisations in the Gloucestershire area either through funding or volunteering work and last year around 2,000 staff, together with some friends and family, completed 189 Challenges across the UK.

Nigel Purveur, South West operations director for Capita Life & Pensions, said: “In partnership with Zurich we will be taking up many more challenges between now and the end of September. We are always looking for opportunities to support our local community and we have a lot of fun in the process! Watch this space as our staff get involved in DIY projects, organising days out, gardening and holding numerous fundraising events.”
