Community engagement

Corporate Social Responsibility

When we say people are key to our success, we don’t just mean our own employees. We want to have a positive impact on our local community.

When we launched our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme in 2006, staff voted overwhelmingly to focus on education projects for underprivileged children. A staff-led committee now manages the budget and plans our activities. We’re one of the few organisations that encourage staff to invest significant amounts of time in community activities.

Why do it?

We believe it benefits us as a business by fostering staff engagement, goodwill, teamwork and purpose throughout the organisation.

NGOs we work with across locations:

Aasara, Kalwa, Mumbai

Aasara is a registered Non-Governmental Organisation working for the welfare of street children in Thane and the adjoining areas for 14 years. Capita has been partnering with Aasara since 2007.

We aim to re-integrate around 40 children aged 6-14 from the illegal Kalwa slum into state education year after year. Over the last year we have successfully managed to shift the children from a small shed to a proper structure.

Handmaids of the Blessed Trinity, Sahar, Mumbai

We support the Handmaids of the Blessed Trinity (HBT), a school and orphanage that’s home to 35 children and educates 500 slum children up to the age of 11. On top of monthly funding for new teachers, medication and supplies, staff members make a vital practical contribution – taking children on trips, helping with health camps and repairing and redecorating facilities.

Vidya, IIT Powai, Mumbai

VIDYA , a local NGO based out of IIT Powai focuses on education of remedial children, education of the girl child, and empowering underprivileged women. With a view to empower the children and women from Vidya we have helped them set up various food and handicrafts stalls in the cafeteria on various occasions. We have also set up a library and held summer camps for the children year after year.

Bharatiya Samaj Seva Kendra (BSSK), Pune

BSSK was officially inaugurated in Pune on October 21, 1979 as an Indian Charitable Trust and registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act of 1950.
They aim to provide welfare services to families and children in need, irrespective of caste, creed, community or religion. We have partnered with BSSK to help support needy children by way of education and engagement programmes.

Parikrama, Bangalore

Parikrama is the recent addition to the Capita Family. In April 2010, we partnered with Parikrama, a non-profit organization that is transforming education for underserved children in urban India, so that they can have equal access to the best opportunities. We support their healthcare and educational needs.

Mumbai Mobile Creches

MMC is an NGO for all children living on a construction site. Their mission is to promote ‘child-friendly’ site where every child living on a construction site is safe, healthy and educated, and able to enjoy their childhood. For MMC, ensuring that the first few years of a child‘s life are well nourished and stimulating is an essential foundation for a happy childhood, and they have a special focus on children below six.

MMC is a recent addition to the CSR family and Capita provides volunteer Support to them along with Aasara, Vidya and HBT in Mumbai. We are in the process of getting the FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) certificate from MMC post which monetary support will be extended to them.
